It is the first eco-sustainable urban hotel in Latin America. But what does it mean to be an eco-sustainable or environmentally responsible hotel? Palo Santo has a program covering aspects such as rational use of energy, rational use of water, reducing emissions of CO2, O3, maximizing insulation, use of certified materials, clean air and pollution reduction among others. This means that the hotel has policies that cause the least possible impact on the environment. In its web-page, explains with details how the hotel reduces the environmental impacts. In 2013, the hotel won the First Prize on sustainable Hotels.

Easy taxi – a new service to request a cab

Requesting a cab usually goes the same way everywhere: pull out your hand when a cab is coming and it will stop. Depending the hour of the day it can take more time or less.

A week ago, on a sunday afternoon I knew it wasn´t going to be easy. So I have Easy Taxi [es] service as an app on my mobile.  Is very simple to use since once you log in, it detects your location.

Here is a simple video that explain the service:

The good thing is that it gives you the cab number, name of driver and he/she will have your mobile number. Is very secure and quick.

 

San Ignacio ruins,Pope Francis and tourism

After the happiness or may be surprise for all argentinians for the new pope, and also because he is the first Jesuit pope elected, it comes to my mind how much this great news will give an uprise to tourism in the country.The first place that comes into my mind is San Ignacio Mini Ruins in Misiones Province, Argentina only 90 KM from Posadas which is the main city in the province. May be the tourists who will visit iguazu falls may probablyu be tempted to visit the ruins as well which are standing still since 1610, and declared in 1984 as UNESCO world heritage. Indeed is a place to visit.

 

The Secret of Tierra del Fuego

There is a generation of Argentines who have lived the arbitration conflict by the Beagle Channel as well have been losing Picton, Nueva and Lenox to the hands of Chile. And it is the same generation that saw the change of  Tierra del Fuego to the creation of a new province in Argentina. At school “died” the asignature “Moral and Civic Education. Remember when war seemed imminent between Chile and Argentina and several inland cities are performing drills curfews in the houses. Never understood why these drills were done at 3000 km away. And I was very marked beyond, so far no one wanted trouble, no wars, because Argentineans and Chileans living the same reality in that area: stay away from the big cities, with a very hostile winter climate that fosters unity and fraternity between people regardless of nationality. The winter with so few hours of sun, snow and ice becomes much easier not to patrol the streets with car use studded tires or chains is a very different reality for those living away from areas with snow. And in a way becomes a way of life that only the fueguinos can understand, because they are living there and even have their codes of life. But summer, delights us with long hours of sunshine and light to admire all its territorial extension

 

Kibera: A Lesson to Replicate – Rising Voices

In some parts of the world, there is often a stereotypical view of visiting poorer parts of urban cities, such as “favelas” in Brazil or “Villas Miserias” in Argentina. Some may think that a visit to these places may put themselves at risk for robbery, rape, and even murder. That is often the case for visitors that mention to local residents that they will be visiting Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, that it is simply not safe. But upon closer investigation about Kibera and the Map Kibera Project, the conclusion that comes up is that there is much more than pre-existing judgements about these slums.

Moises Ville – protagonist and witness of colonization

Moises Ville, a town located in northern Santa Fe province, Argentina, about 350 km from Rosario on Route 34. Founded by the first Jewish migration that came with the steam Wesser which arrived in the year 1889 with 136 families.

It was the first organized migration but also was cheated. Arriving in the Colony Palacios, were abandoned and stayed there for 2 years with no place to live, begging for food to trains passing through the area.
